REMOVE YOUR CARS OR RISK AUCTION …SPEAKER WARNS MPS

By Desmond Isaac Macauley
Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has issued a strong warning to Members of Parliament to immediately remove abandoned vehicles from the parliamentary compound, stressing that the precincts of Parliament must not be turned into a dumping ground.
The Speaker’s directive followed concerns over the growing number of vehicles occupying space within the compound, some of which have reportedly been left unattended for extended periods. He also expressed concern that individuals with no direct connection to Parliament were bringing vehicles onto the premises.
Addressing MPs, Speaker Thomas urged those who no longer need their vehicles to take responsibility and remove them without delay. He emphasized the need to maintain order, discipline, and the dignity of the country’s highest legislative institution.
To ensure compliance, the Speaker gave MPs a two week deadline to clear the abandoned vehicles. He warned that failure to act would leave Parliament with no option but to engage the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) to tow the vehicles away.
Speaker Thomas further cautioned that owners would be required to pay towing and recovery fees to reclaim their vehicles.
He added that any unclaimed vehicles could ultimately be auctioned, underscoring Parliament’s determination to restore order and proper management of its compound.
