SIERRA LEONE AND GUINEA RENEW COMMITMENT TO STRONGER COOPERATION

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Jeneba Bangura, has described the recent Vice President led high level mission to Guinea as a successful engagement that further strengthened the longstanding relationship between Sierra Leone and its neighbouring country.

Speaking at the Government of Sierra Leone’s Weekly Press Conference on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, at the Miatta Civic Centre in Freetown, Deputy Minister Bangura said the visit provided an opportunity for both countries to discuss issues of mutual interest.

She explained that the high level delegation demonstrated the importance Sierra Leone attaches to its relationship with Guinea, while also helping to maintain cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

She said the Guinea mission is part of the Ministry’s wider efforts to strengthen Sierra Leone’s relationships with neighbouring countries and international partners through bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

She also disclosed that the Minister of Foreign Affairs recently held the first meeting with Sierra Leone’s diplomatic missions around the world. The meeting was aimed at giving clearer direction to the country’s foreign policy and improving services provided to Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad.

According to Her, four key priorities were identified at the meeting to guide the Ministry’s work. She said the priorities focus on modernising foreign affairs services, improving timely service delivery, strengthening international partnerships, and placing the interests of Sierra Leoneans at the centre of the country’s diplomatic activities.
