British High Commissioner Lauds Ongoing Judicial Reforms Under Chief Justice Kamanda

Chief Justice’s Chambers, Freetown, 15th September 2026: The British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Josephine Gauld, has commended the ongoing reforms being undertaken by the Judiciary of Sierra Leone under the leadership of the Honourable Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda.

The High Commissioner made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice at his Chambers in Freetown, where discussions focused on the Judiciary’s priorities for the 2026/2027 Judicial Year and areas of continued cooperation between Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom.

During the engagement, the High Commissioner congratulated the Chief Justice on the commencement of the new Judicial Year and discussed key priorities of the Judiciary, including support from the UK-Sierra Leone Pro Bono Network and continued collaboration in strengthening the rule of law and the administration of justice.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the British High Commissioner to express her appreciation to the Chief Justice for inviting her to the Judicial Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday at Saint George’s Cathedral in Freetown to mark the commencement of the 2026/2027 Judicial Year.

In response, Chief Justice Kamanda thanked the High Commissioner for her continued support to the Judiciary and for honouring his invitation to attend the Thanksgiving Service.

The Chief Justice welcomed further collaboration and support from the United Kingdom in initiatives aimed at improving the administration of justice and enhancing access to justice across Sierra Leone. He underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in supporting the continued development of the country’s justice system.

The engagement underscores the longstanding cooperation between Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom in promoting the rule of law, access to justice, and the effective and independent administration of justice.
