VP Juldeh Turns Sod For Extension Of Jamiul Atiq Mosque

Sierra Leone Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has joined Jamiul Atiq Fourah Mosque at the Fourah Bay Community in the turning of sod for the construction of additional infrastructure for the mosque.
The event which was described as a mile stone in the Islamic faith brought together different personalities was done on Sunday 2nd February 2025 at Davies Street at the Fourah Bay Community.
In his welcome address, Alhaji Prof. Abdul Babatunde Karim expressed thanks to their forefathers for giving them such facilities: school and cemetery.
He disclosed that in 1833, they started congregational prayers in the land where the mosque is now standing and that in 1836, they got the deeds, noting that in 1876 they established a permanent structure.
He went on to explain that, in 1982 they modified the mosque to the present look but that the space for congregational prayers is not enough for them these days that is why they want an extension.
He stated that the structure will be four storey building while appealing to the government to give them part of Dane Street for further extension.
Giving an overview of the project, the Chairman of the project Implementation Committee, Alhaji Alieu Mahdi, spoke about the Trust and Annual Assembly Bodies that are running the Mosque.
He said different suggestions came for the extension, but that it was fortunate for them to get a land nearby that was sold to them.
According to Prof. Abdul the first two floor of the four-story building will be for worshipping purpose.
He appeals to all to give freely as provision comes from Allah and that Allah will multiply it for them. He concluded their giving should over shadow the bad.
TEDA Consulting Architects, Alhaji Alpha Tejan Jalloh further explained that the 2nd floor of the four-storey building will be for the Imams while the 3rd floor will serve as Secretarial. The building he pointed will also feature solar lights, disability friendly and water facility.
Consulting Engineer, Alhaji Ing Alpha Badamasi Savage congratulated themselves for what he described as their project. He assured them that the project will be done to the best of what they want.
In his keynote address, Sierra Leone Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh thanked his audience for inviting him to such occasion. He gave his personal experience of places he has lived across Africa and noted that the unique styles demonstrated by the Fourah Bay Muslims are hard to come by.
“When you look at the dedication, they have in how they are putting their resources to Islam is very admirable. When they say masjid is the Jama but without them, it is just a building,” he said.
He thanked the Fourah Bay Jama for their level of organization and assured them that he is part of the project, as he is ready to support it.
Statements were also made by well-wishers including the Fullah and Madingo Muslim Community elders.
