Having looked at the mutating trend in criminal activities in Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) through its Training Directorate deemed it necessary to upgrade senior police investigators with contemporary skills in crime investigations. The training is scheduled for- Tuesday 14th to Thursday 16th May, 2024 – at the Senior Officer’s Mess Kingtom in Freetown, covering topics such as Criminal Modus Operandi Systems, Contemporaneous Interview Skills, Lapses in Evidence Management, Ethics & Values / Professionalism, Managing Change & Leadership Skills etc.
In the short but very important opening ceremony today 14th May 2024, the Director of Training – ACP Esther Kaintor-Dukuray – admonished participants on the need for the training as she called on them to bring their experience in the discussions as no one has monopoly over knowledge. She continued by assuring them of the facilitators’ expertise which would be passed on to them and closed by extending courtesy from the police management.
Giving the overview of the training, DSP Meilah Bangura opined that the facilitators include: himself, ACP Esther Kaintor-Dukuray, RPG Roberts, CSP Joan M.S. Bull (Esq), and CSP Zizer (Esq). He further noted that the training contents were developed to enable officers meet with current investigations trend as he hoped the participants will later transmit their improved skills to junior officers working under their supervision.
Before the training commenced proper, the Regional Crime Officer Freetown-West DSP Mohamed Amara led participants into establishing ground rules for the sessions and the Crime Officer Aberdeen Division, D/ASP Patricia Koroma later gave a vote of thanks on behalf of all participants for the wisdom of Police Management to organize such training.
