SLCAA DG & Colleagues Hold Technical Committee Meeting On RFIR In Freetown
The Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), Madam Musayeroh Barrie has joined his colleagues DGs to dialogue on the Technical Committee and Ministerial meeting of the Robert Flight Information Region (RFIR).
In her opening remarks, she welcomed her colleagues and the entire team on behalf of the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Hon. Alhaji Fanday Turay and also extended same on behalf of the Board and Management of the SLCAA.
She referenced that as a committee, they are part and pursuant to Article 5 of the revised agreement of 2022 bordering and ranging from proving guidance consistence and directives from the Council of Ministers.
She disclosed that Sierra Leone has been a member of the Robert Flight Information Region since its inception in 1975 and that up to this day remain committed to the ideals and sharing a cooperation among the three members of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.
“The government of Sierra Leone is always concerned about the safety and security of our combined airspaces and with our collective collaboration we are hopeful that our skies will continue to be safe under the watch of RFIR,” she noted.
She expressed thanks to both Director Generals of Guinea and Liberia for their support, technical and administrative commitment to the RFIR.
The Technical Committee Chair who is the Civil Aviation Director General of Liberia, Julius D. Dennis stated that their purpose of gathering in Freetown to deliberate and discuss pertinent issues of the Robert Flight Information Region (RFIR) which are the 2024 activity report, and the draft 2025 budget.
He said that the new executive management team took over in April 2024 and advanced a new strategic direction of the organization with a focus on developing a five-year strategic plan aimed at upgrading the current systems and adopting news technologies to improve the quality of service.
He stated that maintaining compliance is the key priority of the strategic plan, adding that the first operational year for this executive as a senior management team is just about ending.
“We are here to peruse and review this 2024 activity report and discuss the draft to get it qualified. It is noteworthy here to mention that recently KO 14 Air Navigation Conference was held in Montreal Canada and the theme was performance, improvement and driving sustainability,” he stated.
He emphasized that the objective of that conference was to reach a global consensus on performance improvement initiatives.
in his statement, the Civil Aviation Director General of Guinea, Sekou Oumar Thaim said that it is an honor and pleasure for them to be together to discuss between member states.
“I want to on behalf of the Guinean delegation extend thanks and appreciation to Sierra Leone and all the authorities for putting everything in place to allow this meeting to move smoothly in Freetown,” he stated.
He highlighted that they will peruse the activity report and invite an external audit which will be submitted to the Ministerial Council today.
He prayed and hoped that they will have a very smooth discussion to map the way forward.
