Sales Man Testifies Against Fake “Barrister” Claud Campbell

Claude Campbell Junior who identifies himself as a lawyer not knowing he is fake made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown, on Two Count charges of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet the accused person Claude Campbell Jr. on the 20th day of April 2024 at Main Motor Road Grafton, Freetown with intent to defraud obtained from the complainant Daniel Gbembo the sum of (NLE401,330) Four Hundred and One Thousand, Three Hundred and Thirty Leones for the purpose of supplying 2 bags of cements, 5 and half ton iron rods 1000 hardboard, and 45 liters vanish knowing same to be false.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sorie Conteh led prosecution witness number 2 Emmanuel Babadie a sales man, said he recognised the accused person in the dock as Barrister Claud Campbell.
And the Complainant in this matter said he recalled on the 20th day of April 2024, something happened between him and the defendant.
On the above date he was in the shop when the defendant arrived there and said he has a client who wanted to travel but had building materials for sale and that the defendant went away and later brought receipt for cement.
That he later brought 1000 hardboard, Five and half ton of iron rod and 45 liters vanish and 2,400 bags of cement.
He testified that just after the transaction, the police came to the shop and stated that the properties brought by the defendant were stolen.
And that the police searched the shop and carried certain properties away.
I called the complainant and told me that the defendant had collected money from the complainant on several occasions.
And that the defendant used to sign for the moneys.
Counsel representing the accused S. Sall Esq. crossed examined the witness and made an application for the bench to review the previous bail that was given to the accused.
Magistrate Bangura granted the application and reviewed the bail conditions and the matter was adjourned to the 1st August 2024.
