The Petroleum Regulatory Agency Sierra Leone (PRA-SL) has revoked the license of Connex gas dealer at Grafton for selling petroleum product above the recommended price. The action comes at a time, citizens are struggling to access petroleum product across the country.
The License and Inspection Director, Jayah Muana of Petroleum Regulatory Agency said that a video circulating on social media showed the dealer of Connex Filling Station Grafton selling a liter of petroleum product above the recommended price. He said that this act is a breach of the PRA regulation and the agency has taken the appropriate action by revoking the license of the said station.
He stated that a fine of Fifty Thousand Leones (SLE50,000) has been levied on the dealer and that the station can only continue operation after adhering to all the regulations of PRA, adding that there are other financial penalties to be levied against Connex Grafton.
He urged other dealers not to engage in fuel hoarding or even sell above the recommended price adding that if any of them breach the regulations they will face severe action.
He continued that there is no plan to increase the prices of petroleum products and that if there is any plan to increase prices, the Agency will communicate that to the public. He disclosed that there is enough petroleum product in the country.
The PRA Act of 2014 grants the Agency the authority to license and regulate the entire downstream petroleum supply chain.
