OSD Officer Committed To High Court For Murder Trial

35-year-old Operational Support Division (OSD) Officer Santigie Kamara has been committed to the High Court following his appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown.
He was arraigned on a count of murder, contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861, as repealed and replaced by Section 1(a) of the Schedule to the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021 (Act No. 6 of 2022).
According to the charge sheet, on 19th January 2025, at 555 Lorry Park in Waterloo, Western Rural District the accused allegedly murdered Francis Amara Kanneh, who is said to be his brother.
During his initial appearance, the charge was read and explained to him, but no plea was taken.
The prosecution, led by Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai, later closed its case, and the file was withdrawn for judgement.
In the interest of justice, Magistrate Jah, having been satisfied with the evidence presented, committed the accused to stand trial at the High Court.
