Orange Money Agent, Others In Court For Over Le19 B Fraud

Businessmen Yusif Turay, Ishmael Nat Thomas, Hassan Gibrill Kargbo, Alhaji Santigie Sesay, Sheriff Osman Sankoh and an Orange Money Agent Ibrahim Thullah have made their first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on three count charges to wit Conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and two counts of Larceny by Servant contrary to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence on diverse dates unknown between Monday 24th to 25th March 2025 at various Access Bank Sierra Leone Limited branches in the Western Area in Freetown with intent to defraud conspired together with other persons unknown and defrauded Orange Mobile Finance Limited the total sum of nineteen million, eight hundred and seventy eight thousand, three hundred and sixty Leones (NLe19,878,360).
Count two further stated that on the same date and place the accused person being an agent operating orange mobile money for Orange Mobile Finance Limited, using Orange Money Wallet to bank transaction platform, stole the total sum of nineteen million eight hundred and seventy eight thousand three hundred and sixty Leones (NLe19,878,360) from bank account number 0010160000326 operated by orange money wallet collection, property of Orange Mobile Finance Limited.
On count three, on the same date at Rotifunk Lungi the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom in the Port Loko District of the North West Region of Sierra Leone being agents operating orange mobile money for Orange Mobile Finance Limited, using orange money wallet to bank transaction platform, stole the total sum of nineteen million eight hundred and seventy eight thousand three hundred and sixty Leones (NLe19,878,360) from bank account number 0010160000326 operated by orange money wallet collection, property of Orange Mobile Finance Limited.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused persons no plea was taken.
The Prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh sought for a short adjournment date to get proper conference with his witness.
Counsel representing the accused persons Abdul Rahman Kargbo Esq applied for bail for and on behalf of the accused persons that they are Sierra Leonean resident within the jurisdiction and that they have reliable sureties who are willing and ready to go into their recognizance on their behalf and that they will not interfere with prosecution witness or witnesses neither will they jump bail. He made his application pursuant to Section 79 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
Meanwhile Magistrate Bangura refused bail and consider the grievous nature of the offences and adjourned the matter to the 14th April 2025.
