No More University Class Reps …Vice Chancellor & Principal of USL Directs Academic Leadership

The Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sierra Leone, Professor Aiah Lebbie has directed that effective immediately, the use of Class Representatives (Class Reps) should be stopped by lectures.
A press statement from the University dated 25th October 2025 stated that in a meeting of the Executive Committee of Senate on 24th October 2025, Professor Lebbie issued a definitive policy directive to all senior academic leadership declaring an end to the practice of using Class Representatives.
That VC affirmed that going forward, lecturers are forbidden from appointing students to such role or delegating any of their duties to them.
That Professor Lebbie has charged the Deans with the responsibility of monitoring and ensuring strict compliance with the declaration across all colleges and faculties.
According to the University release, the directive stems from serious complaints and reports received by university management regarding misconduct by some class representatives across all campuses.
The release noted that the reported behaviours include, but not limited to: extortion, corruption, intimidation and the exploitation of students.
And that to uphold the core values of the university, management resolved to prohibit the appointment of class representatives with immediate effect.
“Effective immediately, the practice of appointing Class Representatives is hereby discontinued,” Professor Lebbie directed.
