Abdul Kamara and Dominic Monrovia, also known as Elon Wise, have been committed to the High Court after appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.1 in Freetown for Conspiracy to Defraud and Obtaining Money by False Pretences.
According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly conspired together with other persons unknown between the 15th and 20th of May 2025 in Freetown, to commit a crime, to wit, obtaining money by False Pretences.
It was alleged that on the 20th of May 2025, at Masalia Village, Masiaka Town, Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko District in the Northern Province, the accused obtained the sum of thirty thousand United States dollars ($30,000), equivalent to seven hundred and twenty thousand Leones (Le 720,000), from Daniel Musa.
They reportedly did so by falsely claiming that they had two fuel tanker trucks for sale, fully aware that the claim was false.
During the preliminary hearing, the prosecution presented evidence showing that there was a prima facie case against the accused.
Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah considered the submissions from both the prosecution and the defence and ruled that sufficient evidence had been presented to warrant trial.
Following the ruling, Abdul Kamara was committed to the High Court and remanded to the Male Correctional Centre to await the next session of the High Court. While Dominic Monrovia was granted bail and is required to remain a resident of Freetown until the matter is called again.
The court adjourned, and the matter will return to the High Court for trial at a date yet to be fixed.
