Magistrate Issues Bench Warrant For Accused

Magistrate Adama Kandeh of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.4 in Freetown has issued a bench warrant against an accused person who failed to appear in court to answer charges brought against him.
The accused, Yusif is facing two counts charge of threatening language, contrary to Section 3(ii) of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965, and Calling a Person by a name other than his/her own name contrary to Section 3(iv) of the same Act.
On count one, police alleged that between 20th March and 25th August 2025 at Main Road, Goderich in Freetown, the accused used threatening languages against the complainants, Dura Bangura and Victoria F. Bangura, stating: “Ar go kill u n u uman for natin” and “Ar go burn u motor bike,” words intended to provoke and breach peace.
On count two, the accused is said to have called the complainant, Dura Bangura, a “Tif man” at the same place and date, also with intent to provoke him and breach the peace.
When the matter was called, the accused was absent. Prosecuting counsel, M. Bayoh, therefore applied for a bench warrant under Section 25(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 6 of 2024.
Having heard the application, Magistrate Kandeh granted the request and issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the accused.
The matter was adjourned to 3rd October 2025.
