Launching Of Local Council Capacity Building Workshop… ‘’Big Five Game Changers’’ Are Centered On Development- Ambassador Ndomahina

The Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) Amb. Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina has officially launched the workshop on Capacity Building of Local Councils on Implementing Social Protection Programmes. The essence of the workshop is to enhance their capacity to implement Social Protection interventions and identify critical roles and responsibilities.

In his opening statement, the NaCSA Regional Coordinator – Joseph Farama expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to attendees mainly Mayors, District Chairpersons, Chief Administrators, and other management staff of the various councils. ‘’The local councils have been part of our interventions as a Commission and their contribution has been phenomenal,’’ he ended.

The Mayor of the Port Loko City Council, His Worship Alie Badara Tarawallie welcomed the Commissioner and his team to Port Loko and assured them of their safety throughout their stay. He re-echoed the importance of the workshop noting that all attendees should give the workshop maximum attention.

Speaking to the team and other participants, Amb. Ernest Ndomahina noted that the Government of Sierra Leone with support from development partners including the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, UNICEF, the German Development Bank and other donor partners have over the years continued to provide support in addressing poverty and other vulnerabilities affecting the People of Sierra Leone. ‘’As delivered by His Excellency, Ret. Brig. Julius Maada Bio, on his New Year’s message to the country, ‘’recognising the gravity of the current economic situation, our government has taken decisive actions to mitigate its effects.’’ No doubt, in the 2024 budget, as emphasized by His Excellency, our government has displayed dedication to providing resources to ensure a “robust social protection’’ consistent with the goals of the national development plan emphasizing the firm commitment to build resilience and move our people out of poverty,’’ Amb. Ndomahina further noted.

In continuation of the effects of the government to build the capacity of the local councils, Amb. Ndomahina informed the council representatives that the Commission through the National Social Protection Secretariat (NSPS) conducted training on the implementation of SP programmes for core staff of the local councils. “Consistent with our rebranding agenda, the Commission is committed to continuing to provide the support that will build the capacity of strategic personnel of the councils including high-profile personalities such as mayors, deputy mayors and chairpersons to gainfully participate in the implementation of SP programmes including the Productive Social Safety Nets and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project. In that regard, kindly permit me to declare this all-important session opened…,’’ he remarked.
