“Kokobeh” Politicians…! Tripartite Is Neither Here Nor There

On Wednesday 19 June Sierra Leoneans expected the release of the Tripartite Committee Report that was set by the International Community for electoral reforms.
The much-expected release of the report put the whole country in a standstill with security threats that made the once vibrant Freetown a ghost town.
The anticipated report did not come out rather we saw the politicians from both the government and main opposition in a meeting and chilling at State House.
Information Minister, Chernoh Bah said that the report will not be submitted on Wednesday because of the boycott of the opposition APC a day before the supposed release of the report.
The boycott of the opposition APC according to them was because of the refusal of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) and the Sierra Leone Peoples Party or SLPP government to fulfil their own side of the Unity Communique.
Like they did for the 2023 elections, the APC in less than 24 hours decided to re-join the committee on the pretext that they have met with the International Committee.
Before now, the APC has brainwashed majority of its supporters that the Tripartite will annul the elections and will call for a fresh election which created anxiety in the minds of its supporters ahead of the Committee Report.
While speculations continue on social media, pictures of APC Leaders and the President Bio were everywhere showing them laughing and chatting amidst the tension.
Most Political Scientists have questioned the intents and purpose of the Tripartite Committee, noting that it will not solve the electoral problems in the country.
They cautioned both the government and the opposition to ensure that they respect the laws of the land and prioritize the welfare of the people.
Meanwhile, in his speech to the nation, Opposition Flagbearer Samura Kamara continued to give false hope to the APC supporters calling for electoral justice instead of electoral reforms which the international partners are all alluding to.
Earlier, the United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan Hunt has denounced re-run of the elections as part of the communique which was signed just as President Bio denounced a re-run of the election.
