Kanja Sesay Undermined!
Last weekend independence celebration kicked off on a very dramatic situation in Sierra Leone as the Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay submitted his resignation on early hours of Friday 26th April.
The resignation came as a surprise to many grassroot supporters of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) who bemoaned the exit of Kanja Sesay.
What looked like a grand plan to sabotage and frustrate Kanja Sesay was exposed immediately after his resignation as what led to the resignation.
Ministry of Energy and Electricity and Distribution Authority has been stating that the cause of the recent blackout was the refusal of the Ministry of finance to pay Turkish Karpowership in Freetown and Transco-CLSG.
This problem has been ongoing for months and the Ministry of Finance has been saying that they don’t have money to pay Karpowership but immediately after the resignation of Minister Kanja, the government announced that it has paid $18.5M to both Karpower and Transco-CLSG on the same Friday 26 April.
The Grand Conspiracy ended with a Press Release from President Julius Maada announcing that he will personally supervise the Ministry of Energy, appointing two deputy ministers to the Ministry.
The former Deputy Minister Eldred Taylor was promoted to Deputy Minister 1 and Edmond Nonie was appointed as Deputy Minister 2.
According to pundits, it is the first time that the Ministry of Energy will be personally supervised by the President in Sierra Leone.
Supporters of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) have said that Kanja Sesay who believed in Bio when nobody did was sabotaged by the President and others in government.
They said that the President should be very careful with the way he is treating people who were with him in the dark days for those who are now with him just because he is in power.
The resignation of Kanja Sesay came just days after the Speaker of Parliament Hon. Chernor Abass Bundu who was also a die hearted loyalist of Bio resigned.
