The Minister of Health Dr. Austin Demby has announced that there are 3,000 vacancies available for medical workers across Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the weekly press conference hosted by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE), Dr. Demby said these vacancies span across 28 different positions in the health sector.
He said that an electronic portal has been set up for interested Sierra Leoneans to apply, provided they have their National Identification Number (NIN) and the required qualifications.
Dr. Demby emphasized that only applicants who meet the necessary criteria will be shortlisted for interviews. He warned that some individuals may attempt to apply without proper documentation, but such applications will not proceed. The recruitment process, he assured, is strictly based on merit and qualifications.
He also made it clear that no connections or personal influence will be needed to secure a position. “There’s no need to know anybody in the system,” he said.
He said that jobs will be given only to those who deserve them and pass the interview stage adding that the aim is to ensure transparency and fairness in the hiring process.
He confirmed that following the interview process, successful applicants will be vetted by the Health Service Commission, the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), and the Ministry of Health noting once verified, candidates will receive their appointment letters and PIN codes for salary. Dr. Demby described the initiative as part of a broader effort to strengthen the health sector, calling it an exciting opportunity to build skilled and committed medical workforce based on merit.
