Chairlady of Sewa Ground Market Appeals for Priority on Market Stall Allocation

By Desmond Isaac Macauley
During the weekly press conference at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Fudia Gbla, Chairlady of the Sewa Ground Market Association expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the government of Sierra Leone and the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) for the successful completion of the newly commissioned market. Madam Gbla acknowledged that though the project was started by the previous government, it has now been completed by the current administration due to their commitment to improving infrastructure in the country.
She emphasized the significance of the new market structure for the vendors and the community at large. She conveyed their association’s excitement about the new development, recognizing it as a major step forward for their operations and for those who rely on the market for their livelihoods. The completion of the market building is seen as a positive sign of progress, and the chairlady praised the government’s efforts to create a modern, functional space for business.
She made a heartfelt request to the government, asking that priority be given to the members of the Sewa Ground Market Association when it comes to renting out the newly constructed market stalls.
She noted that many of their members have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time and are eager to take advantage of the new space to continue their businesses. She also stressed the importance of ensuring that those who have consistently paid their membership dues be given first consideration.
To further support the local vendors, she proposed that the forms for renting out the market stalls be distributed directly through the Sewa Ground Market Association. This, she said, would ensure that the benefits reach the right people, particularly those who have demonstrated their commitment to the association by maintaining their membership. The association’s leadership hopes that this gesture will help to make the transition into the new market as seamless as possible for their members, she expressed.
