Boeing 787 Makes Remarkable Landing In Sierra Leone
On the May 31st 2024, Ethiopian Airline Boeing 787 makes a remarkable landing at the Freetown International Airport. This is the outcome of the Air Service Bilateral agreement between the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and the Government of Sierra Leone at the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Air Service negotiation in Saudi Arabia. ICAO is the United Nations Agency that is coordinating 193 countries to cooperate together and share their skies for their mutual benefit.
In an interview with the Executive Director of Center for Accountability and Rule of Law, Ibrahim Tommy he said that the initiative is laudable adding that more carriers create competition and reduce flight fears. He continued that this will create job opportunities for Sierra Leoneans. He said that coming to Sierra Leone is expensive and one of the reasons is that few flights come to Sierra Leone. He urged Sierra Leone to use the services of the Ethiopian Airlines noting that it is comfortable and less expensive. He called on authorizes to be kind to then as they provide service to Sierra Leoneans.
Speaking to the press the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Ambassador Alhaji Fanday Turay Esq expressed thanks and appreciation to the Vice President Ethiopian-Holiday, Digital Sales and Global Customer Interaction Center, Mr. Hailemelekot Mamo.
He disclosed that his Ministry in collaboration with the Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority signed a bilateral air service agreement with the federal Republic of Ethiopian at the ICAO Air Services negotiation hosted in Reheard in December 2023. He said that with sincere purpose and commitment a lot can be achieved within a short time. He disclosed that the State stands at 71% in terms of aviation security. He said that President Bio identifies aviation as one of the drivers of socioeconomic development as represented in the new aviation transformation at the Freetown International Airport. He stated that his Ministry is committed to ensuring that the Ethiopian Airline together with other service providers provide quality services to passengers coming and going out of the country. He expressed appreciation to the management of the Ethiopian Airline for choosing Sierra Leone as one of its destinations in the continent and assured them of best hospitality in the country. “Government will ensure that those travelling in and out of the country get the required satisfaction,’’ he said.
Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), Madam Musayeroh Barrie expressed optimism to the Ethiopian Airline team and thanked them for making the agreement come to reality. She noted that it creates competition in the aviation service in the country.
In his statement the Vice President of the Ethiopian Airline, Mr. Hailemelekot Mamo thanked the government of Sierra Leone for facilitating the remarkable landing in the country. He assured the public of professional and quality service adding that the Ethiopian Airline is reliable and affordable and will be running to the country three times a week. He urged Sierra Leoneans to patronize with them noting that they have 65 destinations across the world. He said that the Ethiopian Airline has been in operation for many decades and they have professional captains with wealth of experience in Aviation. He stated that they work very hard to bring passengers to the country, and that they operate in Africa, Americas, South America, and Asia among others. He promised to connect Sierra Leone to the Asian market.
In her statement, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Madam Nabeela Tunis said that this venture will help to boost the tourism sector in the country and that it will help connect Sierra Leone to the rest of the world.
