Bo Pupils Celebrate “Small Small Chinese” Christmas Party
Pupils in Bo City over the weekend enjoyed a colourful and entertaining “Small Small Chinese” Christmas Party, organized by the Sierra Leone–China Friendship Association (SiLCHA) in partnership with the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone.
The event, held at the Sahara Hotel Hall in Bo, brought together pupils from various schools, teachers, parents, education stakeholders, innovators, officials from the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), and members of SiLCHA. The gathering was aimed at promoting cultural exchange, talent development, and strengthening the long-standing friendship between Sierra Leone and China.
The pupils took center stage as they celebrated themselves through impressive displays of talent, including traditional and modern dances, singing performances, and other creative activities. Their excitement was evident as they performed confidently before the audience and later enjoyed food and refreshments provided at the event.
In a video message broadcast during the ceremony, the Founder of SiLCHA, Madam Mariatu Kargbo, who is currently residing in China, expressed profound gratitude to the Chinese Embassy, the Government of Sierra Leone, and participating schools for their continued support. She emphasized that SiLCHA’s core mission is building bridges between Sierra Leone and China, particularly among young people.
Madam Kargbo reassured attendees that SiLCHA remains committed to ensuring that the historic and friendly ties between Sierra Leone and China are recognized and celebrated in every district across the country.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Bo Assistant Director, Foday Sawaneh, said his superior would have loved to attend the program but was unavoidably absent. He described the event as “mind-blowing”, noting its potential to positively transform the lives of children.
According to Mr. Sawaneh, the initiative goes beyond entertainment, as it provides educational value and talent exposure for pupils. He pledged to relay what he witnessed to the higher authorities, stressing that such platforms help nurture creativity, confidence, and cultural awareness among children.
“The children did not only perform,” he noted, “they showcased their talents, learned new cultural expressions, and enjoyed themselves in a very meaningful way.”
The Small Small Chinese Christmas Party ended on a joyful note, reinforcing SiLCHA’s vision of cultural cooperation, youth empowerment, and friendship between Sierra Leone and China.
Statement was also made by SiLCHA chairperson, Mrs. Onike King among other dignitaries.
