The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have intensified their search for one Momoh Konneh, an employee of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, after he allegedly fled during a police operation on Friday 28th February 2025. Authorities described the targeted event as an “unlawful gathering and direct violation of the country’s Sodomy Act in relation to same sex relationship,” which reportedly took place at the Amani Night Club on Bath Street, Brookfields in Freetown.
The event was said to have been organized by a transgender individual known locally as Jiva G, who allegedly invited several LGBTQ persons to the venue that was said to be called SPECIAL NAKED (Nude) GAY PARTY. Police sources claim that the gathering escalated into what they termed “publicly indecent behaviour.”
The operation was led by Assistant Superintendent A.B. Sesay, who stated that several attendees were arrested, though Mr. Momoh Konneh and others escaped. According to police accounts, Mr Momoh Konneh is believed to be closely associated with the event organizer. Officers later searched his residence at 49 Berwick Street, but he was not found. As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest, and his name was subsequently added to a public wanted list, where police appealed for information regarding his whereabouts.
A relative of Mr. Konneh informed the New Age Newspaper that those detained during the raid have allegedly faced mistreatment while in custody. The relative also claimed that some community members are calling for the release of the arrested individuals so they can “be dealt with,” raising concerns about their safety. Additionally, it was reported that both community members and the police continue to search for those who have fled the scene and that anyone found will face similar treatment.
