The African Global Logistics (AGL) has donated medical equipment worth over NLe180,000 to the Ross Road Community Health Center in Freetown.
The donation includes patient chairs, blood pressure monitors, examination couches, oximeters, a microscopic machine, hospital beds, and other essential medical tools.
AGL has been operating in Sierra Leone through its three subsidiary bodies and has provided logistics solutions for more than 50 years. The company offers multimodal services including terminal operations, clearing and forwarding (sea and air freight), and shipping agency services, playing a vital role in Sierra Leone’s socio-economic development and in major projects across West Africa.
Speaking at the presentation, AGL Regional Managing Director, Captain Fabjanko Kokan, said the donation reflects the company’s commitment to saving lives. “When you save one life, you save an entire nation,” he noted, stressing that the gesture was made in the spirit of Solidarity Day, which emphasizes helping others. He further urged hospital staff to use the equipment for its intended purpose and reaffirmed AGL’s continued support to health facilities across Sierra Leone.
Receiving the items, Madam Rose Patricia Steven, Senior Community Health Officer in charge of the facility, expressed gratitude to AGL for the timely support. She emphasized the importance of the equipment, noting that although they have the capacity, the lack of functional tools had constrained their ability to deliver effective services.
“Our microscopic machine was faulty, making it difficult to diagnose patients. Accurate diagnosis is crucial for administering the right treatment. With this support from AGL, we now have standard medical equipment to carry out our work effectively,” she said, assuring the company that the donation will be used for its intended purpose. She further encouraged AGL to continue supporting health facilities, pointing out that while government and partners are making efforts, more assistance is needed.
In her statement, Madam Yvonne Elliott, Human Resource Manager of AGL, revealed that the company also plans to give a facelift to the Ross Road Community Health Center. “Health is wealth,” she said, urging medical staff to use the equipment properly and to take good care of it. She reaffirmed AGL’s commitment to supporting health facilities nationwide.
Madam Salamatu Bangura, a patient at the facility, expressed appreciation to AGL for the donation. She highlighted that good medical equipment provides hope to patients and helps save lives.
