Accused Remanded For Theft

Ibrahim Conteh alias Pop Corn made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Court No. 2 in Freetown on a charge of Larceny contrary to the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particular of offences on the 13th of September 2024, at Kingtom Bridge in Freetown in Judicial District of the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the accused broke and entered into the store of Aminata Kella and stole there in Two Hundred and Fifty Two (252) Cartoons of 60×60 tiles each valued Three Hundred and Thirty Leones (NLe330) totally Eighty Three Thousand One Hundred and Sixty Leones (NLe83,160) and One Hundred and Forty Three(143) Cartoons of nails each valued Six Hundred and Eighty Leones (NLe680) totally Ninety Seven Thousand Two Hundred and Forty Leones (NLe97,240) all to the total value of One Hundred and Eighty Thousand, Four Hundred Leones (NLe180,400) properties of the said Aminata.
The witness recalled that on the 13th September 2024 she was informed by a young man that some thieves went to her store at night but they apprehended two of them.
She continued that she immediately went to the store to see where the thieves broke through to enter the store, but that she was surprised as there was no sign.
She said that her husband told her to report the matter to the police as according to him, people in the community took some of the stolen items to the police.
That she went to the police station and found most of her items there.
She testified that the police went to the store and discovered where the thieves broke and entered the store.
She stated that her friend told her that she saw the accused selling some of her stolen items.
That she went to the Community Headman to help her find the accused person and later realized that the accused person is a nephew to the Headman, and the Headman told her that he is tired of solving problems caused by the accused, who then handed him over to the police.
The accused person was not represented and also cross examined himself and asked the complainant if she saw her items with him, an she said no.
He told the court that the complainant is making allegations against him as she has threatened to jail him before. ASP Sorie Conteh is prosecuting the matter
The accused was denied bail and was sent to the Male Correctional Centre and the matter was adjourned to 9th October 2024.
