Twenty-nine-year-old Isata Bindi has been committed to the High Court by Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 to stand trial for manslaughter, following the death of her partner, Mustapha Bangura.
Bindi was arrested and brought before the court on Tuesday 13th May 2025, after being charged by DPC 15179 Kallon P.B for manslaughter, contrary to law.
The charge stemmed from an incident on 2nd April 2025, at their shared residence on Kessie Williams Drive, off Aberdeen Road, Freetown, where Bindi allegedly stabbed and killed Bangura during a domestic dispute.
Investigations revealed that the couple, who shave two children and hailed from the same chiefdom in Bo District, had been in a strained relationship and were reportedly no longer speaking to each other. On the night of the incident, a heated altercation reportedly escalated into physical violence, leading to the fatal stabbing.
During his ruling, Magistrate Jah noted that the prosecution had called three witnesses, all of whom were cross-examined, and a senior crime officer was also permitted to testify.
“Having carefully examined the evidence, I am satisfied that the prosecution has led sufficient evidence to put the accused on trial,” ruled Magistrate Jah.
He further ordered that the senior crime officer should testify during the high court proceedings. When asked whether she wished to say anything before the court, Bindi responded that she intends to call witnesses and give evidence at the High Court.
Magistrate Jah concluded by stating that the matter would be heard in the High Court and ordered that Bindi be remanded in custody pending trial.
