“RUN BELLEH” …Parlaiment Contradicts Speaker’s Lawyer

Conrtrary to a report by the Lawyer of the Speaker HM Gevao, Parliament also dismissed social media reports that Thomas missed Wednesday’s Supreme Court hearing because of illness. The statement called the reports “completely unfounded,” saying the Speaker was abroad on official duty and did not need to attend because the State was properly represented. Earlier Lawyer Hindolo Gevao said that the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, missed Wednesday’s Supreme Court hearing on the constitutional amendments because he was reportedly ill.
He told the Court that the Speaker had diarrhoea, known locally as “run belleh”, and could not attend. The Speaker is one of the defendants in the case, which challenges the legality of the constitutional amendments.
Hon. Thomas presided over the parliamentary sittings at which the Constitutional Amendment Bill at the centre of the case was debated and passed.
