Karpowership Spends Millions of Leones on Variety Children’s Home
On Friday 10th October 2025, the Karpowership handed over the renovated home of the Variety Children and Family Services to the management of the Variety Children.
The Commercial Operations Director of Karpowership Emre Durmusoglu disclosed that the company spent about $70,000 on the renovation of the structure plus added facilities and that Karpowership will continue to take care of monthly consumables.
He stated that there is a strong partnership between the Karpowership and the Government of Sierra Leone by way of providing energy supply to the people of Sierra Leone but that they have made it their responsibility to also provide Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the people of Sierra Leone.
He promised that the Karpowership will continue to provide reliable energy supply to the people of Sierra Leone as well as fulfilling their CSR.
In his statement, the Project Manger Yankay Sawaneh expressed that at Karpowership, they are proud to have supported the renovation and helping to make the facility a little brighter and stronger.
Sawaneh maintained that the project reflects the spirit of Karpowership’s One World vision — bringing people together and making a meaningful difference wherever they operate.
He stated that through the efforts of their Africa team and the support of their management, they were able to turn this vision into reality and help improve the living conditions for the children of Variety Children & Family Services.
“Karpowership’s support goes beyond this renovation — we are also committed to covering school fees, providing monthly food items and sanitary materials, and ensuring continuous care for the children,” he confirmed.
He said that they are truly humbled and honored to stand beside and see the children Variety smiling in their renewed home.
Manager of Variety Children and Family Services Francis Lahai explained that even though there are successes, there are challenges of feeding among others.
He said that every month he spends NLe10,000 just on feeding, NLe2,000 on electricity and together with his brother, they pay over NLe60,000 every three months on school fees.
He disclosed that three years ago, one of the board members bought a 3.6 acre of land for them at Kerry Town and that they are look forward to construct a children’s village that will serve for a life time.
He expressed thanks and appreciation to Karpowership and appeals for more support.
