Magistrate Rena Coker Upholds Integrity & Justice

Freetown, Sierra Leone – In the heart of the bustling legal district at Pademba Road Court No. 7, a new chapter in justice has begun under the leadership of Magistrate Rena Margaret Coker, a highly respected legal mind and newly appointed magistrate whose reputation for fairness, legal prowess, and professional composure precedes her.
Magistrate Coker brings to the bench a rich legal background, having practiced extensively as a legal practitioner before her appointment. With deep expertise across administrative management law, criminal law, civil law, and domestic violence law, she has earned a reputation as a woman of truth, justice, and compassion. Known for her strong moral compass, she interacts seamlessly with people from all walks of life, maintaining respect for both authority and individual rights.
Her courtroom presence is commanding yet empathetic—a blend that reflects her deep respect for the law and those it serves. She is not only committed to upholding justice but also to ensuring it is delivered fairly and with due diligence.
On Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, Magistrate Coker presided over several important matters that reflect both the complexity and human dimensions of the law. Among the notable cases was that of Adewale Deen, a resident of Ascension Town, charged with stealing an iPhone 14 Pro-Max valued at NLe24,000, the property of one Rosetta B. Ganda of Soldiers Street. According to police reports, the phone was stolen on April 24th at 13 John Street in Freetown and later sold for a mere NLe3,000.
The accused, who identified himself as a labourer, pleaded guilty and begged the court for mercy. Magistrate Coker, however, expressed her concern, highlighting that this was not the first criminal offense committed by Deen. In her remarks, she noted the pattern of theft and the impact it has on innocent victims. Displaying her thorough approach to justice, she decided to take additional time to deliver a well-considered judgment, adjourning the case to Wednesday, June 25th, 2025.
In another matter, she presided over the case of Madam Mamie Kai of Tree Planting, who was charged with using threatening language and public insult, allegedly leading to provocation of the complainant. Magistrate Coker skillfully handled the delicate nature of the case, maintaining order and ensuring all sides were heard. The matter remains ongoing in court.
Magistrate Rena M. Coker is more than a new name in the judiciary—she represents a new standard of leadership and integrity. As she continues to deliver rulings in complex and sensitive cases, her commitment to truth, professionalism, and the rule of law shines brightly, offering renewed public confidence in Sierra Leone’s justice system.
