WARDC Launches Rehabilitation Of Newton Market & Waterloo Market Bridge

The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) on Monday, January 27, 2024, launched the rehabilitation of Newton Market and the construction of the bridge leading to the Waterloo Market.
Chairman Kasho J. Holland Cole emphasized that this project is a significant undertaking for the people of Four Mile, Newton, and the surrounding communities. He urged residents to take ownership of the project and actively participate in its successful implementation.
“This is a project for you, the people,” Chairman Cole stated. “It is crucial that you feel a sense of responsibility for its success. Your involvement is essential to ensure that this project serves your needs and your community.”
The project is funded by the Accountable Governance Service Delivery Projects, supported by the World Bank. This funding demonstrates a commitment to improving the lives of residents in the Western Area Rural District.
Councilor Halimatu Kamara expressed her gratitude to Chairman Cole and the entire council for prioritizing the needs of the people of Newton.
“This market rehabilitation is a project that our community desperately needs,” Councilor Halimatu Kamara said. “I urge all residents to come together and support the contractor in every way possible to ensure the timely and successful completion of this vital project.”
The launch of the bridge leading to the Waterloo Market was officiated by Deputy Chairman Robert Browne and Councilor Abu Bakarr Jeff Kamara.
The Deputy Chief Administrator, Mr. Peter Koroma, represented the Chief Administrator, alongside the Development Planning Officer and the M&E Officer. Their presence signifies the council’s commitment to effective project oversight and monitoring.
This project is expected to significantly improve market infrastructure, enhance trade opportunities, and improve the overall quality of life for residents in the affected communities.
