Consistent with Government’s continued effort to promote transparency and accountability in governance, the Ministry of Youth Affairs has transferred the sum of Two Hundred and Eighty-Five Million Leones (Le285,320,000) into the accounts of the District Youth Councils across the country.

The fund to the districts is part of the Le 785,320,000, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Five Million Three Hundred and Twenty Thousand Leones UNDP realigned Youth budget line for 2020 to support the Covid 19 Response.

The Ministry maintained that the amount plus mega phones and locally made face mask will be used to support the District and Chiefdom Youth Council leaders across the country with stipend and awareness training related to Covid 19.

The money was distributed to the 16 Districts in Sierra Leone as follows: Kailahun District with 15 Chiefdoms was given the sum of Le21,700,515, Kenema District with 16 chiefdoms received Le 23,147,216; Kono with 14 chiefdoms received Le 20,253,814, Pujehun with also 14 chiefdoms received Le 20,253,814; Bo with 16 chiefdoms received Le 23,147,216; Moyamba with 14 chiefdoms received Le20253,814; Bonthe with 12 chiefdoms received Le 17,360,412; Kambia with 10 chiefdoms received Le 14,467,010; Port Loko  with 13 chiefdoms received Le18,807,113; Koinadugu with 10 chiefdoms received Le14,467,010; Falaba with 13 chiefdoms received Le18,807,113; Tonkolili with 19 chiefdoms received Le27,487,319; Bombali with 12 chiefdoms received Le17,360,412; Western Area Urban and Western Area Rural received Le1,446,701 making a the total of Le285,320,000 and the remaining Le 500,000,000 will be used to procure locally made WHO/MOHS standard face mask.

The Ministry maintained that they will monitor and supervise the utilization of these funds and appreciated UNDP for the timely intervention and hope that other organizations will come onboard to provide support to young people in defeating Covid 19 in Sierra Leone.
