Indigenes of Walihun Village, Jaima Chiefdom Bo District on Saturday 10th October 2020 jubilantly celebrated the Deputy Minister of Mines, Hon. Ann-Marie Baby Harding.
As a way of expressing their overwhelming gratitude to His Excellency Rtd. Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio for appointing their daughter to serve as a cabinet member, residents of Walihun triumphantly welcomed the Deputy Minister of Mines in a grand style.
In his opening remarks, Chairperson of the event, Hon. Joseph Williams-Lamin applauded the people of Walihun Village for displaying such an act of solidarity towards the Minister.
He encouraged them to be patient and continue to support the Minister as she has more goodwill for Walihun Community noting that without their full support to her, she will not be able to transform Walihun.
Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Hon. Mathew Nyuma expressed that the event is sending out a key message that education is a key tool in the transformation of any society.
He added that Hon. Ann Marie Baby Harding has attained such a height because of her education.
He encouraged locals of Walihun to ensure that they educate their children as it is a fundamental right that they are entitled to.
He admonished them to draw some positives from the story of the Deputy Minister of Mines and use it to positively impact the children of Walihun.
He added that the New Direction Government of President Bio has brought in free quality education for all school going children in Sierra Leone of which Walihun is benefiting from.
While addressing the joyous Walihun crowd, the Deputy Minister of Mines, Hon. Ann Marie Baby Harding expressed thanks to God Almighty for reaching thus far in life.
She noted that had it not been the grace of God, she wouldn’t have gotten to the level she is now.
She expressed appreciation to the first family of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Rtd. Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio and First Lady, Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio for their trust and confidence in her to serve as cabinet member in the country.
She added that with the help of God and Sierra Leoneans she will effectively ensure that the strategic policies of the New Direction Government are actualised.
She thanked her husband, Dr. Prince Alex Harding (BULLET) who is the Chairman of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the National Commission for Privatization (NCP) for his support and love.
Hon. Baby Harding who had performed tremendously well at the Financial Intelligence Unit at the Ministry of Finance is the first ever Walihun indigene to rise to the peak of Deputy Minister in Sierra Leone.
