The Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology, Rev. Prof. Edwin J. J. Momoh has called on Academic Staff of the University during a 4-day meeting on the newly introduced Learning Management System (LMS).
“As a University of Science and Technology, we must put ourselves at the forefront of technology. This is an era of technological advancement,” Prof. Momoh stressed.
As the world’s deadly COVID-19 pandemic has posed a serious threat in every sphere of life, including the educational sector in Sierra Leone, institutions of higher learning through it superintending body suspended all face to face interface with students to reduce the spread of the disease.
As part of it preparedness plan to use information technology to continue teaching, the University’s Directorate of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) trains lecturers and administrative staff on the use of the Students Learning Management System (SLMS).
He encouraged lecturers to gear up to be able to move with the technological industrial revolution especially in the midst of this pandemic.
“If we cannot create, let’s innovate. We must be able to innovate a way to reach our students. A strategy to teach them in a way we would have done if it was a face to face meeting,” he said.
The University has already created the platform for students to learn by providing the available teaching and learning resources through its website: www.ebkustsl.edu.sl. According to the VC & P, email addresses will be created for students which they will use on their smart phones, computers or any ICT garget to access the facility.
The government of Sierra Leone has engaged mobile companies across the country to provide internet connectivity for students without any charges.
