Given the current state of affairs in the country, which has bred disagreement between the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the main opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) party, the United Nations has called on the government of Sierra Leone to engage in a meaningful dialogue.
This call was made by the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Serra Leone, Sunil Saigal on the 4th June 2019 asking that political actors dialogue in order to reduce the increasing political tensions in the country.
Saigal noted that the focus of government should be on maintaining and addressing the important development needs of the country and its people.
The UN release stated that the UN is ready to contribute in the facilitation of such dialogue.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator called on all Sierra Leoneans to maintain peace and calm.
