The Leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party, Hon. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has called on President Bio to temper justice with mercy.
This call was made by Hon. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella during his Eid-Ul-Fitr message to the Muslim community in the country after the observance of the month of Ramadan.
That President Bio should serve as an example by starting the peace building process in the country by way of urging the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Priscilla Schwartz to grant bail to Sylvia Blyden among others.
“On this Holy Day, I want to make an urgent call on H.E. President Maada Bio to be a Political Samaritan by taking the first step in building peace and reconciliation and tempering justice with mercy by urging the Attorney General and Minister of Justice not to oppose bail in the case against Sylvia Olayinka Blyden and her personal assistant, Muckson Sesay, and for the State to urge the court to ensure that the bail terms for the spouse of Mr. Paolo Conteh, Isata Saccoh, are not onerous,” he stated.
That humane conditions are accorded to the former Minister of Internal Affairs, Retired Major Alfred Palo Conteh and other political detainees.
He urged that the rights to fair and just trial as guaranteed in the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone and other International instruments of which Sierra Leone is signatory to are respected in handling cases.
That if such move is made by the President, it will showcase how large-hearted he is and defines the peace building process in the country as well as his New Direction administrative drive.
“Mr. President should also heed the call by civil society groups and myself for an invitation to His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma to join the COVID-19 fight,” KKY stated.
He prayed that Allah will grant the President and other political leaders the wisdom of Solomon and the courage of David to rise to the challenges and foster peace.
