The Office of the Ombudsman has been sued to the High Court for failing to pay the sum of $90,000 which is a debt owe as rent to Charles Harding who is the Plaintiff.

That the Plaintiff is claiming the recovery of immediate vacant possession of the property situate, lying and being at 26 Charlotte Street, Freetown in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone occupied by the defendant.

According to court file, the Plaintiff is and was at all material times to this action the lessor and Administrator of the Estate of the Late Honourable Justice Cornelius Harding, who at the time of his death was the Freehold Owner of the premises situate lying and being at 26 Charlotte Street, Freetown in the Republic of Sierra Leone.

That the Defendant is and was at all material times to this action the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

That by virtue of letters of administration dated the 26th day of October 2015 granted by the High Court of Sierra Leone to Charles Harding, the Plaintiff became the administrator of the estate of the Late Honourable Justice Cornelius Harding.

That payment of arrears of rent for the period of 1st November 2018 to 1 November 2020 in the sum of $ 80,000 until possession is delivered up to the Plaintiff.

That payment of arrears of maintenance fee for the period 1st November 2018 to 1st November 2020 in the sum of $10,000 until possession is delivered up to the Plaintiff.

That interest of the said total sum of $90,000 until possession is delivered up to Plaintiff at the rate of 19% and for such period as the court deems just pursuant to Cap 19 of the laws of Sierra Leone 1960.

However, the Ombudsman, Leon Jenkins Johnston maintained that all necessary documents for payment to the Plaintiff has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance which is responsible for the nonpayment.
