National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) has conducted a practical training workshop on income generation and financial literacy and issuance of payment slips to female war victims to access grant from the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank.
The beneficiaries of the Le 11. 4 billion grant payments for rehabilitation among other things are for 8,045 female war widows and sexual victims affected by the war living in the Western Area.
Commissioner of NaCSA, Abu Bockarie Kokofele, commended the beneficiaries for exercising patient while the documentation process was taking place to expedite their payment.
He recalled the sad chapter of the war that claimed the lives of many people and saw the destruction of properties worth billions of Leones, adding that is why the Commission has ensured the payment of the said amount to alleviate the suffering of victims and reduce poverty.
The Commissioner maintained that the payment was a fulfillment of one of the TRC’s recommendations for war victims to be taken care of, adding that his institutions has been providing humanitarians assistances to over 1,200 of them.
In her remarks, Executive Director Legal Aid Board, Fatmata Claire Carlton Hanciles, said the payment of victims has come as a huge relief to her institution.
She thanked President Bio for ensuring that his government adheres to the recommendations of the TRC, while urging them to make good use of the money given to them by investing it wisely.
