Having distributed over Le285,000,000 in the different District Youth Councils account nationwide, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Mohamed Orman Bangura has called on youths to be transparent and accountable.
Speaking in an interview, the minister reiterated the president’s war on corruption, indiscipline and poverty, citing that there will be no corruption without accountability.
He said considering how the Ministry of Youth Affairs has been during the previous administration with regards issues of transparency and accountability, it is but prudent that they are accountable for any fund they receive from their partners.
He continued that they want to continue to build the trust of the President and their partners by been accountable and transparent in whatever they are doing.
He furthered that leadership does not stop with him, and that as young person, he owes the generation and the community he finds himself.
He maintained that he represents young people at cabinet level and there are others who represent young people at districts and chiefdom levels, noting that when transparency is demonstrated at the top, the effect will reach those at the bottom.
The Minister expressed belief that the most resilient and trustworthy people in Sierra Leone are the youths.
He challenged the youths to utilize the over Le 85,000,000 that has been distributed in their various accounts to raise awareness on gender based violence, teenage pregnancy, and the coronavirus.
