Within Two (2) years of his administration, President Bio has shown red cards to Two (2) Executive Directors at the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) as he has hired and fired twice.
The first to receive the bullet (dismissal) was Dr. Sarah Finda Bendu who was shown the exit door by President Bio after allegations of corruption befell her at the SLMA of which she was later convicted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The sacking of Sarah Bendu saw her being replaced by Ken Philip Sondai who has now being replaced by Paul Sobba Massaquoi.
This second replacement has left many people believing that the SLMA is the one of the institutions if not the first to have had such quick changes within a short period of time.
The sacking of Ken Philip Sondai came after an internal memo was put out by the Director of Admin and Human Resources, SLMA indicating that directives from the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, ordered that Festus Crosbie should act as Executive Director with immediate effect.
“All SLMA staff be informed that according to communication received from the Ministry of Transport and Aviation this morning, Mr. Festus Crosbie has been asked to be Acting Executive Director with immediate effect until further notice,” the memo indicated.
This directive was countered by a memo put out by the Board Chairman of SLMA that Ken Philip Sondai remains the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA).
“I write to inform all Directors and staff of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration that with the power vested in me as the Board Chairman, I hereby inform you all that Mr. Ken Philip Sondai is still the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration. If there are any changes, you will be duly informed by the Board,” the Chairman affirmed.
Then came an indefinite suspension of Ken Philip Sondai as Executive Director from the Minister of Transport of Aviation, Kabineh Kallon.
The Minister stated that the suspension of Sondai is not unconnected to insubordination and poor management.
“In view of the insubordination and poor management style, you are therefore suspended indefinitely without pay as Executive Director of Sierra Leone Maritime Administration with immediate effect,” Kallon stated.
