The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Priscilla Schwartz has failed to show up in the Well of Parliament to table the Criminal Procedure Act of 2019 which seeks to amend Act No. 32 of the Public Order of 1965.
The AG was supposed to have tabled the Instrument in Parliament on Tuesday 26th November but failed to do so which angered Members of Parliament.
She did not send a representative on her behalf neither made any excuse for her absence as was done by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. Patricia Laverly who was also supposed to be in the Well of Parliament to table a paper.
The absence of the two ministers resulted to bitter arguments between the Acting Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo and the Acting Leader of Government Business, Hon. Sahr Mathew Nyuma.
Hon. Nyuma maintained that the Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. Patricia Laverly did ask to be excused by Parliament for her absence to both him and the Speaker of Parliament as they were at the Ministry doing some ratifications.
Despite the reasons given by Hon. Nyuma for the the absence of the Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo was not pleased with the attitude of the two ministers.
“The absence of two ministers in a row who were supposed to be here to participate in important government business immediately after we had lamented about the poor performance of us the Legislators in the area of attendance is a clear indication that the governance structure of the state is also collapsing,” Hon. Ben Kargbo emphasized.
