The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has declared one Mohamed S. Conteh as wanted for allegedly involving in a public riot that led to injuries to some people and loss of properties that cost millions of Leones.
The alleged incident happened on March 9th, 2019 duringthe bye-election at the Ward 196 at Tonko Limba in Kambia District in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone.
According to the police, Mohamed Conteh was one of the youth leaders of the All Peoples Congress (APC) that led the political riot after the governing Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) was declared winner of the bye-election for what the majority opposition APC accused the SLPP of electoral fraud.
The opposition APC claimed the election has been rigged in favor of the SLPP and a riot and civil disturbance broke-up leading to the damage and loss of properties; injuries to some youths and the death of a 24 years old man.
Local observers and some civil societies had cast doubt on the legitimacy of the poll, which they said was marred by many irregularities and voters intimidation.
Mohamed S Conteh is now known to be on the run and in order to protect his life.
He is known to be one of the strongest supporters of the All People’s Congress in his community.
Sources closer to this medium, communicated that Mohamed highlighted the huddles he went through in the hands of the police on that faithful day, and he denied playing any part in the conflict as alleged but he was chased simply because they knew him to be a supporter of the APC.
Mohamed Conteh was a local business man who owned a motorcycle garage in his community according to people in his community.
He had helped trained local youths in mechanical work on popularly known motorcycle transportation called Okada.
A couple of youths in his community confirmed to this reporter that, because of Mohamed’s intervention in training youths, they now have jobs and livelihoods.
Sources closer to him, narrated this unfortunate incident had cost him his life, deteriorating health, and loss of income and properties.
He also mentioned that his family and acquaintances are presently going through hell in the hands of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) supporter’s, intimidation, provocation and among other things.
