Ministry of Youth Affairs under the Youth Empowerment Programme has officially handed over ten car wash centers and certification to beneficiaries at a ceremony held at the Stadium Car Wash.
In his statement, the chairman of the occasion, Charles Moinina thanked President Bio for his commitment in transforming the lives of youths in Sierra Leone and providing leadership and support for the construction and rebranding of ten car wash centers in the Western Area.
He noted that it is the New Direction initiative to empower the grassroots to become self-esteem and responsible citizen of Sierra Leone.
The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Hu Zhangliang said that last year, the Ministry of Youth Affairs proposed to initiate the Youths in Car Wash and Surface Project to help Sierra Leonean youths develop livelihood skills and create employment opportunities.
He added that the ministry requested for support to establish partners, which the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone responded positively and the car wash centers have finally been completed and are being handed over to the youth.
He reiterated the president’s effort in addressing the problems of the youth.
Representatives from Guma Valley Water Company, Ministry of Environment, Sierra Leone Road Authority and the office of the Secretary to the president all made statements during the occasion.
The deputy Minister of Youth Affairs in his statement said the occasion marks a new beginning in the lives of youths who will be owning the various car wash centers across Freetown, noting that the gates of employment for hundreds of once-neglected youths have been opened.
He said the New Direction has given young people a turn around and made the impossible possible.
Delivering his keynote address on behalf of President Bio, the presidential adviser on cultural heritage, Raymond D’Souza George said the occasion is a landmark day for the youths, noting that the initiative must be seen as a welcome breath of fresh air for the youths. He maintained that the initiative have the full support of the president as they officially hand over the ten so far completed car wash centers across Western Area with the determination to gradually moved to other parts of the country.
