Prof. Ibrahim Bangura steals the spotlight

Prof. Ibrahim Bangura has been instrumental in strengthening the strategic direction, intellectual depth, and operational relevance of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre’s (KAIPTC) programming in Sierra Leone, the Mano River region, and across West Africa. His sustained engagement with the Centre reflects a deep intellectual partnership that has consistently enhanced KAIPTC’s relevance, credibility, and impact in complex peace and security environments.

Prof. Bangura has played a pivotal role in the development, review, and refinement of several KAIPTC flagship courses, ensuring that training remains analytically rigorous, contextually grounded, and responsive to emerging challenges. His expertise has contributed to programmes addressing disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration, human rights, stabilisation, violent extremism, leadership, maritime security, and climate and environmental security. Through his facilitation and mentoring, he has brought scholarly depth and practical insight to the learning experience of peace and security practitioners.
His contribution has been particularly significant in Sierra Leone, where he has served as a critical bridge between KAIPTC and national stakeholders. Drawing on his extensive networks and contextual knowledge, he has strengthened engagement with government institutions, security sector actors, civil society, and academia, while providing valuable insights on programme design, peacebuilding, and Security Sector Reform.
