Freetown Waste Transformers Engages Block 6 to Roll Out Waste Collection Services
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Freetown Waste Transformers (FWT), Madam Aminata Dumbuya, together with her team, has commenced engagement with businesses and residents within Block 6 to implement the new waste collection plan for the city. The initiative is being carried out with the full support of the Freetown City Council (FCC).
Following a brief coordination meeting at the FCC headquarters on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, the FWT team proceeded into the field to register business owners and residents within Block 6 for waste management services.
In her address, Madam Dumbuya explained that FWT is one of the certified and authorized waste service providers appointed by the FCC under its ongoing waste management reform program.
Approximately a year ago, the FCC initiated a comprehensive reform process to improve waste management across Freetown. As part of this process, the city was divided into eight operational blocks, and private sector entities were invited to submit bids for the provision of waste collection services. FWT successfully emerged as one of five service providers selected to operate within the municipality.
“FWT is the certified waste service provider for Block 6,” Madam Dumbuya stated. “Block 6 encompasses Wards 429 through 434, geographically stretching from Congo Cross Bridge to Tower Hill, covering the Central Business District (CBD) and all areas in between.”
The engagement on Tuesday formed part of FWT’s community outreach efforts, organized in collaboration with the FCC to sensitize residents and promote compliance with the city’s new waste management framework.
Madam Dumbuya further disclosed that the FCC has trained approximately 700 community volunteers to support the ‘Dorti Mus Go’ campaign a public awareness initiative designed to encourage responsible waste disposal and foster cleaner communities.
She also reminded residents and business owners that, in accordance with the new parliamentary sanitation bylaws, all households and commercial entities are required to register and subscribe with an FCC-approved waste service provider.
“FWT is your approved waste management service provider for Block 6,” Madam Dumbuya affirmed. “To register instantly, residents and businesses can scan our QR code or send a WhatsApp message to our AI assistant at +232 30 010742. Together, we can keep Freetown clean because a cleaner city is a safer, healthier home for everyone.”
