Twenty-nine-year-old Abdul Sesay, a football player, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment after being found guilty of stealing a mobile phone at Magistrate Court No.1, Pademba Road in Freetown.
According to court records, Sesay reportedly stole a silver Samsung Galaxy A-15, valued at NLe12,000 belonging to a Court Clerk Bakisa Massaquoi on 16th September 2025. He was later recognized by the arresting officer, Corporal 1298 Cecilia Thomas, when he attempted to sell a boot to her in disguise at the court. CCTV footage had previously captured his actions, and his photograph was circulated to the police.
The defendant was arraigned on a single count of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916. When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty.
In his ruling, Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah noted that Sesay was not a first-time offender and therefore deserved a custodial sentence. He consequently sentenced him to five years imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The case was prosecuted by Inspector Mabel M. Tarawalie.
