NCRA DG Discusses With Paramount Chiefs On Easy Access To ID Cards

By Fatmata Mohamed Bangura The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) hosts a strategic engagement with paramount chiefs at the NCRA Headquarters Office Kingharman Road Freetown on 20th August, 2025. The meeting focuses on the development of Mobile Registration teams to reach hard-to-reach communities across Sierra Leone, aimed at expanding access to National Identification Number (NINs) and ID cards with ease. The involvement of Paramount Chiefs is critical in mobilising community support and ensuring effective outreach. NCRA Director General said that the purpose of the meeting is to ensure that all districts in Sierra Leone be part of the NIN and subscriber identity Module SIM linkage initiative. Meeting with these chiefs is for them to work in collaboration with NCRA so that people from those communities can easily access their National Identification Cards. He furthered that people from those communities always inform their chiefs whenever they want to get married, when a person dies and also when a child is born so, for them to access those people unless they go through their chiefs. Hon. PC Sheku Amadu Tejan Fasuluku Sonsiama III of Sandor Chiefdom – Kono District and also National Chairman for National Council of Paramount Chiefs Sierra Leone said that the National Council of Paramount Chiefs in Sierra Leone constitute 190 Chiefdom and that 14 of them is part of the meeting together with 4 regional council excluding Western Area. He said that they have the East comprising of Kenama, Kono, Kailahun; the South comprising of Bo, Bonthe Moyamba District and they have the North East comprising of Bombali, Tonkolili, Fabala, North west comprising of Kambia, Karene and Port Loko District. He said that all of these four regions have regional persons who are representing them in the meeting. He said that they will consult the section chiefs who will go back to their various chiefdoms and consult with their respective sections in the essence of bringing everybody together to be able to take their National Identification Cards. He said that they are working with chiefs because they want to access people in those communities.
