Three Dragged To Court For $7,000 Theft

Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 has adjourned the case involving three individuals accused of stealing $7,000 from the residence of Sierra Leonean Football Star Kei Kamara, while ordering that bail continues for the accused persons.
The accused, Abubakarr Turay, Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter, Kadiatu Turay, are charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, contrary to the Larceny Act of 1916.
The alleged offence occurred on 15th January 2025 at Fadika Drive, Hill Station in Freetown where they were employed as caretakers.
When the charges were read, Abubakarr Turay pleaded not guilty, while Fatmata Bangura and Kadiatu Turay admitted to the offence.
Police prosecutor M.K. Taylor led PW5, Detective Andrew Nyakeh Amara of the CID Regional Headquarters, Lumley who testified about obtaining voluntary caution and charge statements from all three accused persons between 20th January and 2nd February 2025.
To form part of the court records, these documents were tendered in court as exhibits.
During cross-examination, defense counsel M.Y. Conteh highlighted that the third accused denied stealing the $7,000 in her statement, though she admitted serving as Kamara’s caretaker.
The matter, which commenced with a preliminary investigation under the Larceny Act of 1916, will continue at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court until the defense counsel opens their case or it is committed to the High Court.
In the interest of justice, Magistrate Jah adjourned the matter to 1st September, 2025.
Meanwhile, bail continues for all accused person.
