Community People Dispute Police Claims Over Mysterious Boat

In the wake of a mysterious boat spotted at the Hamilton Community which sparked concerns among Sierra Leoneans, a report from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) indicates that there is nothing of police interest neither security concern.
However, community people maintained that for sometime now, they have been seen the boat in question moving along the Hamilton, Sussex and it surrounding communities.
They maintained that for the police to state that there is nothing of police interest or security concern is very hard to believe.
They referenced similar incidents such as the mysterious plane that landed at Hastings, a container at water quay suspected of drugs, a mysterious boat at Tokeh among others for which nothing tangible came from police and other security players.
According to a press release from the police dated 22nd July 2025, a yacht- Agios Basseterre stranded at Beach One, Hamilton with three Philippine crew members.
“The republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Navy Wing and the Sierra Leone Police Maritime conducted thorough search on the vessel, however, nothing of police interest or security concern discovered,” the Police stated.
The police maintained that the search team was informed that the yacht drifted to the coastline as a result of engine failure and that efforts are being made to tow the yacht to the naval base at Murry Town.
Sources from the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) disclosed that the boat is not a yacht but a trawler noting that even though it is carrying the Sierra Leone National Flag does not mean that it is from Sierra Leone, noting that it can be determined by the registration number.
That a team has been set up that is now investigating to ascertain ownership and possibly other necessary information.
