Govt. Of Sierra Leone Extends Contract With Karpowership For Reliable Electricity Supply

The government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has extended the electricity contract with the Karpowership for a period of one year.
This was made known in a joint press release between the Ministry of Energy and the Karpowership dated 1st July 2025 noting an agreement on contract extension and increase in electricity supply.
“The Ministry of Energy, through the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), wishes to inform the general public that it has reached an agreement with the Karpowership to increase the supply of electricity and to further extend the contract between the parties by one more year,” the press statement noted.
That based on this agreement, the Karpowership increased power supply to the usual 25MW during the rainy season and 45MW of electricity in the dry season.
The release further maintained that the Government of Sierra Leone and the Karpowership have reached a negotiated settlement for which there has been a restructuring of the outstanding debt owed to Karpowership by government.
The Ministry of Energy expressed thanks and appreciations to the Karpowership for the mutual understanding and shared commitment to providing accessible and reliable electricity.
