FAO, Others Dialogue On Achievement Of Feed Salone Pillar 3 Today

Representatives from key ministries, agencies, private agrifood sector, financing and development partners will today 20th February 2025 gather in Freetown and deliberate on critical actions necessary for achieving the results outlined in the Feed Salone Implementation Plan Pillar 3.
The Feed Salone Strategy aims to boost food security and inclusive economic growth in Sierra Leone through investments. Pillar 3 focuses on enhancing aggregation, processing, and marketing of agrifood products to increase competitiveness – domestically and on international markets – as well as food security to drive transformation of the agrifood sector in Sierra Leone.
An Implementation Plan for the operationalization of the Feed Salone Strategy Pillar 3 has been developed to guide this process. Through this plan, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) intends to lower the fiscal burden on the Government by reducing imports, increasing exports and creating means of self-sustenance. It also plans to encourage private sector-led growth, while ensuring active engagement of women and youth. Additionally, the plan promotes varied and differentiated approaches to ensure inclusivity, sustainability, nutritional outcomes and job creation.
This intersectoral dialogue is organized as part of Sierra Leone’s collaboration with the European Union (EU) and the Investment Centre of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the framework of the “Sustainable Agrifood Systems Intelligence” initiative (SASI) to support operational activities for the implementation of the Feed Salone strategy.
The SASI initiative, implemented with the help of FAO and Agrinatura, supports countries to translate national goals and plans into operational programs, policies and investments that enhance the economic, environmental and social sustainability of their agrifood systems. Sierra Leone is one of the five countries selected for this global initiative.
Participants to the intersectoral dialogue will contribute to the establishment of a concrete action plan with clear commitments, to ensure the successful implementation of the plan.
