Parliament Ratifies International Convention On Watercourse Protection

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has debated and ratified the International Convention geared towards the protection of, and use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Madam Francess Alghali assured parliament that, the agreement would promote regional investment coupled with quality water supply management. She also mentioned that the convention when ratified, would help Sierra Leone strengthen its positive bilateral relationship with other international countries around the world.
Hon. Ing. Fallah Tengbeh from Kailahun District in his submission, noted that, the convention is non-contentious. “This agreement is good for us,” he said and went on to highlight some of the importance of the convention towards the socio-economic development of Sierra Leone.
Hon. Sheika Sama further appreciated the Government of President Julius Maada Bio for the enactment of good laws for the State, on the water agreement, he welcomed the convention and went on to underscore the importance of the convention.
Hon. Musa Fofanah from Kono District added that, the convention is on the right trajectory. He also informed that, there are lot of challenges involved in accessing pure drinking water and underscores the huge benefits this convention will bring to the development of the country.
Acting opposition Leader, Hon. Daniel Koroma said in his concluding statement that, the convention before the House is non-controversial and went on to question the delay of the convention before the House. He said the details of the convention is very important for the nation.
The acting leader of government business Hon, Bashiru Silikie, expressed optimism, that more conventions would be brought to the House for ratification.
