Deputy Leader Of Opposition Criticizes Govt. For Failed Promises

On Friday 8th November 2024, the Parliament of Sierra Leone concluded debate on the Presidential Speech that was delivered by President Bio on 6th August 2024 in the Well of Parliament.
During the debate, Honorable Abdul Karim Kamara, spoke on Agriculture, and mentioned the government Feed Salone initiative that is aimed at providing adequate food for the people to ensure food security.
He noted that, food should not be politicised and called on his fellow parliamentarians not to politicised national issues, which he said will destroy the country’s development.
Joining the debate, the Deputy Leader of the main opposition, Honorable Aaron Aruna Koroma from Tonkolili District, criticised the government for failing to fulfill promises made by the President. He highlighted the high prices of commodities across the country and urged the government to focus more on the economy of the country.
The Parliamentary Chief Whip, Honorable Dixon Momoh Rogers commended the government for their efforts in education and hailed the government for improving the lives of MPs in Parliament. He mentioned their take home salary of 21 thousand new Leones and the government continuous push for progress. He cited the Hillside Bypass Road as one of the government successes.
The Deputy Minister of Finance 1, Kadiatu Allieu said that the government has attracted more donor support and completed the Millennium Compact with the United States to improve upon the energy sector in the country. She said that the government has made enormous improvement to strengthen the economy of Sierra Leone.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Theresa Tenneh Dick answered questions and concerns raised by Parliament regarding the Feed Salone project and assured Parliament that the Ministry is working towards mechanized farming.
Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Honorable Matthew Sahr Nyuama concluded the debate by praising the president’s commitment to national unity. He called on Honorable Members of Parliament to work together for the nations progress, noting that despite past challenges the president is focused on building a nation that every Sierra Leonean would be proud of.
